Become a Leader in Your Optometry Community

Thank you for your interest in becoming an OptoPrep Part I Student Representative. OptoPrep is the most complete Internet-based, interactive study resource for the NBEO® Part I, II, & III exams. Study with exam-style practice questions and detailed answer explanations that mimic the format of the actual exams.

Confirm Eligibility
Ensure you understand your school’s policies regarding student representatives and that you are eligible to serve in this role as a 2nd year student.
Discuss and promote the OptoPrep product informally with your classmates and the class below you to increase awareness of the program. You will be responsible for learning the program so you are equipped to answer program questions from your classmates.
Periodically communicate with your classmates via email, WhatsApp, GroupMe, or other similar platforms to announce OptoPrep registration specials and important upcoming NBEO® dates. If your school/class has a Facebook page/group, posting the information to that group as well. These emails and postings will need to be completed within 48 hours of the initial request from OptoPrep.
Engage in Edcelerate to Build Community
As a Student Rep, you’ll play an active role in Edcelerate, OptoPrep's student community hub. You’ll help spark conversation, share helpful reminders, highlight study tips, and encourage classmates to connect with one another. Posting in the OptoPrep channel is a key part of your role and helps build a supportive, engaged community across schools.
Help schedule a (~45 min) PowerPoint presentation (written by OptoPrep) to your classmates outlining some of the basic aspects of the national board examination and the available study materials with an emphasis on why we think OptoPrep is a superior product for board preparation. This presentation will be done virtually, via Zoom, with our Program Manager.
Assist OptoPrep in our efforts to constantly improve our product by providing feedback about how the program helped you (and your classmates) and areas that might benefit from additional material coverage. You should be aware that, legally, you are not allowed to share any questions or specific topics from your board exam. We will not ask about them; it is not our intention to undermine the integrity of the board examination.
Distribute and post OptoPrep flyers, posters and other promotional materials in the appropriate places at your school (e.g. mailboxes, classrooms), as well as posting on social channels (according to your individual comfort level).
Attend an online orientation session and respond to a brief exit survey.
Attend occasional Zoom focus groups to provide commentary on ways to improve the OptoPrep program and its features.
Complete occasional surveys for feedback on program improvements.
Complete any necessary tasks and send all communications, copying the OptoPrep Program manager, in a timely manner (typically within 48 hours of the initial ask).

Assist OptoPrep in identifying and recruiting a representative from the class below you.

This role typically requires 10–20 hours over the course of your second year. Most reps find the experience rewarding, especially as they become a trusted resource for classmates preparing for NBEO® Part I.

As an OptoPrep Student Representative, you’ll receive a free subscription to OptoPrep Premium, that will not expire until after boards.

For schools with non‑traditional schedules, we’ll work with you to provide a subscription timeline that fits your curriculum.

For schools with facility subscriptions, we cannot provide cash or gift cards of equal value, but we will ensure you receive additional perks for your support.

During your third year, you’ll receive OptoPrep promotional items to distribute or raffle to your classmates — and you may keep a few for yourself.
